Football Fans in Training is a programme funded by the SPFL Trust which is specifically designed to provide a community based weight management and healthy lifestyle intervention. This programme is delivered at The Energy Check Stadium @ Firhill, and provides exercise guidance, support and nutritional information by an exercise professional.

The results from the programme show that there have been decreases in weight, waist circumference and BMI.  The biggest impact the programme has had on the participants is the education components, information regarding portion sizes, nutrition and how to change unhealthy eating habits and behaviours. This allows the participants to continue in their new healthy lifestyle changes long after the 12 programme is complete.

As well as the current programme there is now a group of pervious FFIT participants who have started training on a weekly basis to continue leading a healthy, active lifestyle.  From these weekly sessions, the group actively seek other FFIT groups to play 11-a-side friendly football matches, and have already played various games to date. Whilst we see FFIT as great starting mechanism for people who have moved away from regular physical activity, the success of the programme is demonstrated in the real lifestyle changes which our previous participants are sustaining.

FFIT’s well trained fitness health and exercise professional provides exercise guidance, support and nutritional information but most of all, to assist in your own personal goals.

The main aims of the programme are to:

  • Increase knowledge of diet & nutrition
  • Improve lifestyle choices
  • Increase physical activity amongst participants
  • Reduce weight and waist measurements
  • Increase engagement in other physical activity
